Busselton, Western Australia
Electricians in BusseltonHoliday homes, new estates and the odd big blow.
Busselton's electrical work follows two things: growth and guests. The City of Busselton went from 30,330 people in 2011 to 40,640 in 2021, and at the start of July 2021 it had 969 registered holiday homes, each one caught by WA's rules for homes that are hired out. Send us the job and your postcode, and we'll match you with one licence-checked local electrician who does that work, if we have one nearby.

Holiday homes come with electrical rules
If you let a house, unit or apartment for short stays, WA's rental safety rules apply. Short-term rental accommodation must have safety switches (RCDs, which cut the power fast if current leaks to earth) at the switchboard before guests stay. A home that's hired out also needs compliant smoke alarms: working, connected to the mains and no more than 10 years old.
Owners have to keep those alarms working and in date, and local governments enforce the smoke alarm laws. If you've bought a place near the bay as an investment, an electrician who does rental compliance work can check the safety switches and the alarms in one visit.
Growth means newer homes, and new questions
Busselton is projected to reach 50,000 to 70,000 people by 2050, and newer localities like Vasse already had 2,853 residents in 2021. New homes generally come with modern boards, so the jobs tend to be additions: a charger in the garage, a battery, power and lights for the alfresco.
Western Power allows a 7 kW single-phase EV charger on a standard home connection, provided the total load stays inside the supply limit and the main switch is a circuit breaker. EV charger installation covers choosing one.

Storms
Early on 12 July 2021 a storm took the roof off a home in Eagle Bay, with a gust of 92.6 km/h recorded at the Busselton Jetty.
Storm surge
Ex-cyclone Alby brought a 2.5 m storm tide to Busselton in 1978, and the flooding damaged dozens of structures, the jetty among them.
Older buildings too
225 places are heritage-listed in the City of Busselton, including Wonnerup House (1859) and Weld Hall (1881).
If we owned a Busselton holiday home
We'd have an electrician check the safety switches and smoke alarms before the first booking of the season, and keep the paperwork where the property manager can find it. Guests won't know where your main switch is, so we'd label it clearly and put Western Power's number in the house guide.
