Tools and checkersQuick answers before you call anyone.
These tools answer the questions people have before they ring an electrician: is this person licensed, does my switchboard need work, why does the power keep tripping, what do the smoke alarm rules say, is my quote complete, and how long will the car take to charge. We're building them now. Until each one's ready, its page explains what it'll do and links the guide that covers the same ground.
Which one do I need?
Hiring someone? Start with the licence checker, then go through their written quote with the quote checker to see what's missing.
Something's not working? If a switch keeps dropping, the tripping troubleshooter helps you work out whether it's an appliance or the wiring. If the board itself is old, the switchboard checker walks through the signs.
Selling, leasing or just checking? The smoke alarm rules checker narrows the rules down to your state and your situation.
Bought an EV? The charging time calculator shows what a power point or a wall charger will add overnight.
What the tools won't do
They won't quote you a figure for any job, because we don't publish prices for electrical work. They can't see behind a switchboard cover or test your wiring, and they're not legal advice. Anything with a wire behind it stays licensed work, whatever a checker says.
Burning smell, sparks or a shock? Skip the tools
If you can reach it safely, turn the power off at the main switch. Call 000 if there's fire or someone has been hurt, and don't touch anyone who may still be in contact with the power. A checker can wait.
