About us

Privacy policyWhat we collect, and where it goes.

In plain terms: we collect what you put in the quote form and pass your contact details to one electrician so they can contact you about your job. No other electrician gets them, and we don't sell them. You can ask what we hold about you and have it corrected.

Who we are

This policy covers Sparky Next Door, run by Blufire Pty Ltd (ABN 14 665 545 282). We're a referral service. We match homeowners' electrical jobs with licensed electricians. For a privacy question, Blufire's privacy policy at blufire.com.au/privacy explains how to contact Blufire.

What we collect

  • From the quote form: the kind of job, how soon you need it, your postcode, first name, email and mobile number.
  • Your consent: a record that you ticked the box agreeing we can pass your name, email, number and job details to one licensed electrician.
  • If you contact us: whatever you tell us.
  • From electricians who apply: business and licence details, insurance, ABN and evidence of the jobs they do.
  • From the website itself: we use Microsoft Clarity to see how people use the site, such as where they click and scroll, through heatmaps and recordings of visits. Clarity uses cookies and similar technology, and anything typed into the quote form is hidden from the recordings. Microsoft handles that data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. The quote form also uses Google reCAPTCHA, the "I'm not a robot" box, to stop spam. It sends Google information about your browser and how you use the box, under Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Links to all three are under Sources below.

Why we collect it, and who it goes to

We use your details to match your job, and so the electrician can contact you about it. Electricians near you who do your kind of job can see the job, your first name and your suburb. Your name, email and mobile go only to the electrician who takes your job. They don't go to other electricians, and we don't sell or rent them to anyone.

We also use other businesses to run the site and store information, such as hosting, and some of them are in the United States.

If you leave out a way to reach you, we can't match your job, because the electrician would have no way to get in touch.

The Privacy Act

The Privacy Act has 13 Australian Privacy Principles, and they apply to every organisation the Act covers. A small business with annual turnover of $3 million or less is generally outside the Act, but a business that discloses personal information for a benefit without the person's consent is covered whatever its size. We ask for consent every time, and we follow the principles regardless.

What we keep, and why

Job requests and consent records are kept so we can answer questions about a job later.

Seeing or correcting your details

You can ask what we hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected. To do that, contact Blufire, which runs this site: its privacy policy at blufire.com.au/privacy explains how.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled it

Tell us first, and we'll look into it and reply in writing. If our answer doesn't resolve it, you can take a privacy complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. Complaints and disputes covers problems with an electrician's work, which is a separate matter.
