Nowra, New South Wales

Electricians in NowraEndeavour Energy country, with its own rules.

Nowra is on Endeavour Energy's network, not Essential Energy's like most of regional NSW, so the outage number, the solar export rules and the connection process are Endeavour's. Shoalhaven City Council lists Endeavour on 131 003 for power outages. Tell us your job and we'll match it with one licence-checked local electrician who does that work, where we have one nearby.

What's particular to Nowra

Endeavour Energy, 131 003

Call it for outages, fallen lines and electrical emergencies. Endeavour says to stay at least eight metres from fallen lines and to call 000 if life is at risk. It also texts updates about planned maintenance outages and keeps a live outage map.

Bushfire-prone land

Shoalhaven City Council maps bush fire prone land across the city. Properties wholly or partly in the red, orange or yellow areas must meet bushfire construction standards such as AS 3959.

Power underground in new subdivisions

Planning for Bush Fire Protection 2019 says new residential subdivisions on bush fire prone land should have power lines underground where practicable, and any overhead lines need short pole spacing of 30 metres.

Mostly houses

At the 2021 Census, 87.2% of occupied homes in the Shoalhaven were separate houses and only 2.0% were flats or apartments. On census night, 23.1% of private dwellings were unoccupied.

Heat and storms

Nowra reached 45.6 degrees on 21 December 2019. A severe storm on 16 December 2015 caused roof damage in South Nowra.

Solar owners: the export rules change from November 2026

Endeavour Energy is moving to flexible exports. Eligible solar homes can export up to 10 kW per phase most of the time, and from November 2026 that becomes the default for eligible new and upgraded systems. The fixed plan allows a maximum of 1.5 kW. Either way you need a CSIP-AUS inverter listed by the Clean Energy Council and a working internet connection, and the rollout runs by postcode from 2 November 2026 to February 2027.

If you're adding panels, a battery or upgrading an inverter in Nowra, ask the electrician which export plan your system will land on and whether the inverter is on the list. It's an easy question to miss and an annoying one to discover later.

Other jobs that come up in the Shoalhaven

EV chargers. Endeavour says a wall charger must be installed by a licensed electrician, who should tell Endeavour if the switchboard or meter box needs upgrading. A bi-directional charger, one that can send power back, must be approved and registered through its Connections Portal. EV charger installation has more.

Three phase and bigger connections. Moving a home from single to three phase is lodged online through Endeavour's Connections Portal, and the service work on basic connections is usually done by a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider. See three phase power for when it's worth it.

Meters. On Endeavour's network your retailer installs and maintains smart meters, and NSW homes are set to move to smart meters by 2030.

Homes that sit empty. If yours is one of the Shoalhaven houses that's empty for long stretches, working smoke alarms and safety switches matter even more, because nobody's there to notice a fault.

How we'd go about it in Nowra

If you're on a bushfire-prone block and building or renovating, we'd raise the power supply early with your builder and an electrician who knows Endeavour's process, because underground supply and connection approvals take planning. If you already have solar, check your inverter against the CSIP-AUS list before the November 2026 change reaches your postcode.
