Southern Highlands, New South Wales

Electricians in the Southern HighlandsHeritage towns, grassy acreage, Endeavour's network.

The Southern Highlands has more than 400 heritage items and 17 heritage conservation areas, and since July 2025 its bushfire map counts grasslands and paddocks as bush fire prone land. Old homes in Bowral, Berrima and Moss Vale, and newer builds on acreage, both bring their own electrical jobs. Wingecarribee Shire Council lists Endeavour Energy as the network, on 131 003. Tell us the job and we'll match it with one licence-checked local electrician who does that work, if we have one.

What's local to the Highlands

Endeavour Energy, 131 003

Wingecarribee Shire Council names Endeavour Energy as the electricity distributor, with an emergency line of 131 003 for outages and fallen lines. Check your power bill: if it shows another distributor, its own fault number is the one to ring.

Heritage everywhere

More than 400 heritage items and sites, and 17 heritage conservation areas, including parts of Bowral, Berrima, Mittagong, Moss Vale and Bundanoon.

A wider bushfire map

A new certified bush fire prone land map for Wingecarribee took effect from 15 July 2025. It now counts grasslands, pastures and other unmanaged grassy areas as Category 3 bush fire prone land.

Building on that land

The council says development on bush fire prone land must meet Planning for Bush Fire Protection 2019, and complying development isn't allowed on high risk land rated BAL-40 or BAL-FZ.

Houses, mostly owned

At the 2021 Census, 90.4% of occupied homes in Wingecarribee were separate houses, 44.6% were owned outright and 19.3% were rented.

Older homes in the heritage towns

A cottage in a conservation area can look original from the street and still have had its wiring altered several times inside. The things worth checking are the switchboard, whether every circuit has a safety switch, and whether any old cabling is still in use. NSW Fair Trading strongly recommends that homes built before 2000 have a licensed electrician check for safety switches, and backing boards made before 1987 can contain asbestos. Our old wiring page explains what to look for.

If you're changing what can be seen from the street, such as adding solar panels or moving a meter box, talk to Wingecarribee Shire Council about heritage rules first.

Building or renovating on acreage

Bigger homes and sheds on rural blocks often need more supply. On Endeavour's network, most connection and upgrade applications, including moving from single to three phase, go online through its Connections Portal. Its basic connection offers cover up to 100 amps single phase or 63 amps three phase, and a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider usually does the service work. Our three phase power page helps you decide if you need it.

If your block is now on the bush fire prone map, plan the power with your builder early. Planning for Bush Fire Protection 2019 says new residential subdivisions on bush fire prone land should have power lines underground where practicable. A long run from the road to the house may also involve a private pole or cable, covered in our private power poles guide.

Solar and chargers on Endeavour's network

Endeavour's export plans need a CSIP-AUS inverter and an internet connection, and flexible exports become the default for eligible new and upgraded systems from November 2026. For an EV charger, Endeavour expects the installing electrician to tell it if the switchboard or meter box needs upgrading.

What we'd do in the Highlands

In a heritage home, we'd start with a switchboard and safety switch check before any renovation. On acreage, we'd get an electrician who handles Endeavour connections involved before the builder finalises plans, because supply, phase and the cable route from the road are much easier to settle on paper than after the slab is down.

Questions

Straight answers.

Who do I call for a power outage in Bowral or Moss Vale?

Endeavour Energy on 131 003, the number Wingecarribee Shire Council lists. If only your house is affected, check your safety switch first, then call an electrician.

Do I need three phase power for a big new home on acreage?

Not always. It depends on what you'll run: heat pumps, big air conditioning, EV charging, workshops. An electrician can work out your load and lodge the application with Endeavour if you need it.

Can I add solar to a heritage home in the Southern Highlands?

Talk to Wingecarribee Shire Council first if the home is a heritage item or in a conservation area. Then ask the electrician or installer about Endeavour's inverter requirements.
