Warrnambool, Victoria
Electricians in WarrnamboolWhat the southerly leaves behind.
Warrnambool faces the Southern Ocean, and the weather that comes off it shapes a lot of the electrical work here. When the September 2023 winds hit 106 km/h, roofs came off and the local SES had its biggest single call-out on record. Most of what follows a blow like that is the network's job, and some of it is yours. For your part, we'll match you with one licence-checked local electrician who does storm repairs, if we have one near you.
- Sparky Next Door certified electricians only
- One specialist, not five phone calls
- Only the electrician who takes your job gets your number
After a big blow, look for these
- The line from the pole sagging, or pulled away from the house. Keep clear and ring Powercor on 13 24 12.
- A branch resting on, or tangled in, any line. Don't touch the tree or the line.
- Water coming through the ceiling near a light fitting. Switch that circuit off at the switchboard if you can reach it safely.
- A meter box knocked about or its door torn off. Don't touch anything inside, and get it looked at.
- An outdoor power point or light full of water. Leave it off until an electrician has checked it.
Warrnambool's weather and network
Southerly exposure
Warrnambool sits on Lady Bay, and its beaches cop the southerly weather. On 8 September 2023 gusts of 106 km/h ripped roofs from homes and Warrnambool SES logged 237 incidents. Clearing the fallen trees across the city was expected to take up to three weeks.
Powercor: 13 24 12
Powercor runs the network here and opened a new Warrnambool depot on Horne Road in late 2025, with more than 90 staff covering Camperdown to the South Australian border and up to the Grampians. Fallen lines go to 13 24 12, and Energy Safe Victoria says to stay more than 8 to 10 metres away.
Lightning
Warrnambool was among the towns with customers off supply after the lightning storms of 2 February 2025.
Heat as well
Warrnambool Airport hit 45.0 C on 27 January 2026. Even a mild coastal city needs air conditioning circuits that can cope with a heatwave.
Trees and the line into your house
Powercor treats some parts of the connection as the property owner's responsibility. If it finds a defect on your side, such as a loose or missing service hook, or trees on your land growing too close to the overhead service line, you'll get a defect notice. You then arrange the repair and lodge a compliance form.
Powercor's own cutting teams can also enter private property to cut trees back from its powerlines, in some cases needing four metres of clearance. If you're planting near the street lines, pick something that stays small. Fixing a service hook or the wiring at your end is licensed work for an electrician.
The steady work between storms
Warrnambool went from 9,993 people in 1947 to 18,684 by 1971, so there's a big stock of post-war homes now on their second or third switchboard, or still on their first. Newer estates are adding chargers, batteries and solar. Storm and flood damage covers what an electrician checks once the weather clears.
What we'd do before the next southerly
Look at the trees on your block that are anywhere near the line into the house, and get them cut back before winter rather than after a storm brings them down. Save 13 24 12 in your phone. If the service hook on the house looks rusty or loose, have an electrician look at it on a calm day.

Questions
Straight answers.
A storm pulled the power line off my house. Who fixes it?
Ring Powercor on 13 24 12 first and keep well clear, because the line may still be live. Once it's safe, damage to the hook or wiring on your side of the connection is a job for an electrician.
Can Powercor cut the trees on my property?
Yes. Its cutting teams can enter private property to cut trees back from powerlines, and it notifies owners in advance except for urgent safety work. Trees too close to the service line into your own house are yours to deal with.
Who do I call when Warrnambool loses power?
Powercor, on 13 24 12, or check its outage map. If it's just your house, look for a tripped safety switch on the switchboard first.
