Morphett Vale's story in four points
From an 1840 village to a 1960s suburb
A town called Dublin was subdivided here in October 1840. Extensive subdivision in the 1960s then turned the area from rural land into a metropolitan suburb, and the heritage-listed Old Courthouse in William Street is a reminder of the earlier village.
Almost all houses
At the 2021 Census, 84.9% of occupied homes were separate houses and just 0.3% were flats. The median age was 40.
Paying off, and renting
41.3% of homes had a mortgage and 28.2% were rented, so both owners planning upgrades and landlords keeping rentals safe are common here.
A busy fire brigade
The local Country Fire Service brigade responds to between 300 and 400 emergencies a year on average.
What a good quote for an older Morphett Vale board should include
- What's on the board now, and what's wrong with it, in plain words
- How many circuits get safety switches, and which ones
- Whether the main supply needs changing, or just the board
- Room left on the new board for solar, a battery or a car charger later
- What happens to any old circuits that test badly
- The electronic certificate of compliance (eCoC) you'll get within 30 days
- The contractor's licence number, so you can check it on the CBS register
Solar and car chargers on Morphett Vale roofs
Solar fitted in South Australia since 1 July 2023 must work with SA Power Networks' Flexible Exports. New solar or a replacement inverter also needs a Relevant Agent, someone who can switch it off and on remotely when lawfully directed, which SA Power Networks is by default on Flexible Exports. A good installer handles both.
For a car charger, the board and the main supply decide what's possible. EV charger installation in Adelaide and switchboards for solar and EV chargers explain what an electrician checks.
If it were our Morphett Vale house
We'd do the board first and the extras second. A new board with spare room and safety switches on every circuit makes every later job (solar, a charger, another air conditioner) simpler and safer, and you only pay for the disruption once.
