Adelaide suburbs

Electricians in Mawson LakesNewer homes, shared walls and shared car parks.

Mawson Lakes is one of Adelaide's newer suburbs, built between 1998 and 2011, so most homes have modern switchboards with safety switches already. The jobs here are less about old wiring and more about adding things: car chargers in apartment basements, outdoor power, lighting, and fixing faults in rentals. Tell us the job and we'll match it with one licence-checked electrician near Mawson Lakes who does that work, if there's one in our network.

Mawson Lakes at a glance

Planned and built in 13 years

Delfin partnered with the state government and the City of Salisbury in 1998, and Lendlease handed the finished suburb to the council in 2011.

Every kind of home

Housing is detached, semi-detached and terraced. The Peninsula is mostly two-storey lakefront homes, and Mawson Central is almost all apartments. In 2021, 14.9% of occupied homes were flats and 17.9% townhouses or semis.

Young, and plenty renting

The median age was 33 in 2021, and 38.6% of occupied homes were rented. The suburb grew up beside a university campus and Technology Park, established in 1982 as Australia's first science park.

Lilac pipes in the ground

Mawson Lakes has a second, recycled water supply in lilac pipes. Anyone trenching for outdoor power or a garden light should know there are two water mains, not one.

The jobs that come up in Mawson Lakes

Car charging in Mawson Central. In an apartment block, the charger is the easy bit. You'll need the strata corporation's approval, and someone has to work out whether the building's supply can handle several chargers at once. Since 11 September 2026 SA Power Networks doesn't need to approve a home charger that isn't vehicle to grid (V2G) capable, though the installer still issues an eCoC.

Two-storey homes. Running a new circuit to an upstairs room or a balcony means finding a path through finished walls and ceilings. Electricians who do a lot of renovation work in two-storey houses tend to make a neater job of it.

Rentals. When a tenant reports a fault, the landlord arranges the electrician. A tingle from a tap or appliance goes to SA Power Networks on 13 13 66 first.

Before you say yes to an EV charger quote in an apartment

  • Have you checked the building's main supply, or only my unit's board?
  • Will the charger be metered to my unit, or to common property?
  • Can the cable route be shared if other owners want chargers later?
  • What does the strata corporation need from you before work starts?
  • Is this charger V2G capable, and if so, have you applied to SA Power Networks?

Where we'd start in a Mawson Lakes apartment

We'd raise EV charging at the next strata meeting before buying a charger. Owners who plan the car park's supply together end up with a tidier, safer setup than a scatter of individual cables, and nobody gets told later that the building has run out of capacity.

Questions

Straight answers.

My Mawson Lakes home is only 15 years old. Why would it need an electrician?

Usually not for the board itself. Most calls in newer homes are for additions (more power points, outdoor lighting, a charger, a ceiling fan) or for one-off faults like a safety switch that keeps tripping because of a faulty appliance.

Do I get a certificate for small jobs too?

Yes. In South Australia, whoever does electrical work must give you an electronic certificate of compliance (eCoC) within 30 days, confirming the work was tested and meets the standards.
