Bacchus Marsh's homes and network
Old town
The Manor House (1847) is one of Victoria's earliest surviving substantial homes, and the court house (1859) and Express office (1866) are registered buildings.
Growing out
Darley and Maddingley began as town reserves on the Lerderderg and Werribee rivers in 1839 to 1840 and are now growing rapidly. At the 2021 Census, 84.2% of Bacchus Marsh homes were separate houses and 25.8% were rented.
Rivers and low ground
The town sits between the Lerderderg and Werribee rivers, with river junctions just east of town and some low-lying land that needed drainage.
Powercor country
Powercor's map of its network shows a Bacchus Marsh zone substation. Faults and fallen lines go to Powercor on 13 24 12.
Powercor's rules for your service line
If Powercor finds a defect on your side of the connection, like a loose or missing service hook or trees on your land too close to the overhead service line, you get a defect notice. You have to arrange the repair and then lodge a compliance form.
Powercor's cutting crews can also enter private property to trim trees back from powerlines, in some cases needing four metres of clearance, and more in higher bushfire risk areas.
Repairs on your side of the connection are licensed work, so an electrician fixes the hook, the cable or the meter box wiring.
Other jobs in Bacchus Marsh
In the older town houses it's usually switchboard upgrades, safety switches and rewiring. In the new estates it's EV chargers, solar and outdoor power. If your solar has been given a zero export limit, ask about Powercor's flexible exports, which can let eligible homes export when the network has room, with a reliable internet connection and a compatible inverter.
If it were our place in Bacchus Marsh
We'd take a look at the line from the pole to the house from the ground: is it clear of branches, and does the point where it meets the house look solid? If anything seems wrong, get an electrician before a defect notice arrives.
