Beerwah's growth, in numbers
Newer houses
Residential growth picked up from 2010, and the population went from 6,769 in 2016 to 7,734 in 2021.
Mortgaged families
39.6% of homes were owned with a mortgage and 26.5% rented. The median age was 40.
More to come
Council calls Beerwah East, about 5,200 hectares nearby, the coast's preferred long-term growth area, forecast to provide 7000 homes by 2041.
Network upgrades
In 2010 Energex announced an upgrade of its Peachester Road substation with three new transformers, forecasting power use in the Beerwah area to rise by at least 20 percent over seven years.
Under the Glass House Mountains
Beerwah sits just north of the range, below 555 m Mount Beerwah. Energex runs the network here, and its outage line is 13 62 62.
Single phase or three phase?
Most houses run on single phase power. If you're adding a fast EV charger, big air conditioning and solar, three phase can make room for all of it. On Energex's network, the licensed electrician lodges the change as an Electrical Work Request through Energex's portal, which also tells your retailer.
Energex's basic solar connection allows up to 10 kVA of inverter capacity and 5 kW of export per phase, so a three phase home can connect more solar on the standard offer. Three phase power explained goes through the trade-offs.
Before you add an EV charger
Ask the electrician to look at the board's spare capacity first. A charger, an induction cooktop and ducted air can all land on a board that was sized for less. Sometimes the answer is load management; sometimes it's a switchboard upgrade.
Sheds on bigger blocks often need their own sub-board and a trench for the cable. Have that quoted as a separate line so you can see what it involves.
Where we'd start in Beerwah
We'd write down everything we plan to add over the next few years, the charger, solar, a battery, the shed, and give that whole list to one electrician. Planning the board once is far easier than upgrading it three times.
