Light switches and power pointsPick the look and the features. A licensed electrician fits them.

Most switch ranges do the same basic job, so the real differences are the look, how the plates go together, what's still being made and whether you want smart control. Whichever you pick, fitting a switch or power point is licensed work. Energy Safe Victoria says even small jobs like changing a light switch aren't DIY.

Which range suits what

Clipsal Iconic is Clipsal's current residential range, with clip-on skins and Bluetooth and Zigbee smart options. It's the one to look at if smart switches or dimmers are in the plan, now or later.

Clipsal Saturn is the glass-look and metal-finish range with push buttons. Schneider Electric has discontinued some Saturn Series switches with no replacement, so check stock before planning a whole house around it.

Clipsal 2000 Series is the grid plate and clip-on surround design Clipsal once called its most popular range. Schneider's Australian site still listed 2000 Series products in October 2026.

HPM Excel is a Legrand range that wasn't simply renamed Excel Life. Legrand still lists both, and Excel Life is the newer one, with smart, matt and medical versions.

Thinking about smart switches?

Clipsal's Wiser system works with most of its existing wiring devices, Iconic included, and takes voice commands through Google Home or Amazon Echo. Legrand's Excel Life Smart can be run by touch, voice or a smart device.

Check the exact version before you buy. Schneider discontinued the Bluetooth versions of two Iconic Wiser smart devices on 31 August 2026, and its older Wiser Room app won't get any more updates. Smart switches and home automation covers the wiring side.

What you choose, and what the electrician does

You choose the range, the colour and where each switch and power point goes. Check anything you buy carries the RCM, the mark in-scope electrical equipment needs before it can be sold in Australia. Ausgrid is clear that unless you're qualified, you shouldn't install or move switches, lights or power points. Changing a light globe is the exception.
