Skins, Outdoor and Essence
Iconic skins are clip-on covers made of UV-stabilised thermoplastic polycarbonate, and the 2 gang skin suits horizontal or vertical mounting. Schneider Electric says the Iconic platform also brought new safety features and was designed to simplify installation.
Iconic Essence skins come in Arctic White or Ash Grey with a pale birch timber surround. They're made for indoor dry areas, so keep them out of wet rooms. For outside, Iconic Outdoor is the weatherproof version: its power points are rated IP54 and its switches IP56, in Extra White or Black.
Bluetooth or Zigbee? Check before you buy
Iconic's smart devices run on Clipsal's Wiser system. Devices that start in Bluetooth mode are controlled with the Wiser by SE app on your phone, no hub needed, and can be switched to Zigbee later to join a Wiser Hub for remote access, scenes and voice control through Google Home or Amazon Echo. The Iconic Outdoor switched power point with timer, for example, sets up over Bluetooth without a hub.
Here's the trap. Schneider discontinued the Bluetooth versions of the Iconic Wiser smart switch (41E2PBSWM-VW) and the push button smart dimmer (41EPBDWCLM-VW) on 31 August 2026. The Zigbee version of the dimmer (41EPBDWCLMZ-VW), rated 300 W at 240 V, is still listed. The older Clipsal Wiser Room app, used for Bluetooth timers and electronic switches, is to be discontinued and won't get updates.
Smart without changing the switch
If you like the switch you've got, Clipsal's Wiser micro module dimmer turns a traditional switch or dimmer into a connected one. It sits in the wall box or an installation box near the light and dims LED, halogen, fluorescent or incandescent lights up to 200 W. That's wiring work, so it's one for the electrician too.
What to ask the electrician
- Is this smart switch the Zigbee version, or discontinued Bluetooth stock?
- Will I need a Wiser Hub for what I want, like voice control or scenes?
- Does the smart device need a neutral at this switch location? Clipsal's pages we read don't say.
- Which skins suit wet areas and outdoors, and which are indoor only?
- In NSW, will I get a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work for the job?
What we'd do
If smart control is part of the plan, we'd go Zigbee from day one and skip any leftover Bluetooth stock, however good the deal looks. For plain switches and power points, the choice is mostly about which skins you like. Pick those, then let a licensed electrician fit the mechanisms.
