Ingleburn's back story
Street lights came late
Ingleburn was a village from 1885, but street lights and water didn't arrive until after World War I.
1970s growth
In 1969 the west side of the railway was rezoned for industry. New housing, including Housing Commission developments, went up on the outskirts through the 1970s.

Signs a 1970s board is due for attention
- A black or dark brown backing board behind the switches
- Federal brand fuses, which may hold friable asbestos in the fuse carrier
- Fuses you pull out and rewire instead of circuit breakers
- One safety switch, or none, for the whole house
- Breakers that trip when the air conditioner starts
Think your meter board contains asbestos?
Don't drill, cut or break anything on it, and don't let anyone else until they've explained how they'll manage the asbestos. In NSW any friable asbestos must be removed by a Class A licensed removalist.
What we'd tell an Ingleburn owner
If your home went up in the 1970s and the board hasn't changed, plan a switchboard upgrade rather than waiting for it to fail. Before work starts, ask the electrician how they'll handle a backing board that might contain asbestos; a good one will have a clear answer. We'll match one who does this work if we have them near Ingleburn.
