Golden Grove's homes, in short
A joint venture from the 1980s
In 1983 the South Australian Urban Land Trust contracted Delfin to develop Golden Grove. Earthworks began in May 1985, and more than 200 blocks sold in the first week of sales that October.
Still growing
The Settlement added about 220 blocks from 2007. In April 2023 the state released land for an additional 500 homes, and the 48-block Luminaire Estate had sold out by November 2024.
Family houses, mostly owned
In 2021, 85.1% of occupied homes were separate houses, with an average of 3.3 bedrooms. 41.4% were being paid off with a mortgage and 18.3% were rented.
Close enough to the Hills for embers
RAA says ember attacks from Adelaide Hills fires can reach suburbs such as Golden Grove.
Which Golden Grove house have you got?
| Original estate (1985 to 2002) | Newer estates (2007 onwards) | |
|---|---|---|
| Switchboard | Probably original, often with room on it but fewer safety switches than a new board | Modern board with breakers and safety switches, sized for a new house |
| Common jobs | Adding safety switches, new circuits for air conditioning, more power points | Solar, batteries, EV chargers, outdoor power and lighting |
| What to check first | Whether the board can take another circuit | Whether the board and supply suit the charger or battery you want |
Solar and EV chargers here
Golden Grove's big roofs and double garages make it natural solar and EV country. Any exporting solar system installed in South Australia since 1 July 2023 has to be compatible with SA Power Networks' Flexible Exports, which can let an internet-connected inverter export up to 10 kW per phase. If the home's internet drops, exports ramp down to 1.5 kW until it's back, so keep the inverter online.
For a car charger, SA Power Networks said on 11 September 2026 that it no longer needs to approve home chargers that aren't vehicle to grid (V2G) capable. V2G chargers still need an application first. Either way you get an eCoC. EV charger installation in Adelaide covers the rest.
What we'd do in Golden Grove
If your house is from the original estate and you're planning solar, a battery or a charger, we'd get the board assessed in the same visit as the quote. It's far easier to plan one upgrade that suits everything you want over the next few years than to find out halfway through that the board's full.
