Mudgeeraba's homes and power
A village on big blocks
Most older houses sit on blocks of 0.5 to 2 acres, beside much larger farming properties.
Heritage on Railway Street
The Wallaby Hotel and the Old Post Office, once the Nerang Shire Council Chambers, are both heritage-listed.
Families with a mortgage
At the 2021 Census, 78.0% of homes were separate houses and 20.8% townhouses or semis; 47.9% were owned with a mortgage, 23.3% rented, and 50.4% had four or more bedrooms.
Batteries going on
Postcode 4213, which takes in neighbouring hinterland suburbs, had 8,844 small-scale solar systems by September 2026, and 1,139 home batteries installed since July 2025.
Creeks and storms
Mudgeeraba Creek feeds the Nerang River catchment, and the suburb was activated for disaster assistance after the Christmas 2023 storms. Energex outages: 13 62 62.
Power beyond the house
A shed, granny flat or workshop needs properly sized cable, usually run underground, and often its own sub-board with safety switches. Undersized cable on a long run is a classic cause of lights dimming and tools struggling.
Extension leads strung across the yard aren't a fix, and neither is tapping a nearby circuit without checking the load. Doing either properly is licensed work. Anything with a motor, like a water or pool pump, should be on a circuit an electrician has sized for it.
Adding a battery
Batteries are going in quickly here. Before you sign, ask whether yours will keep chosen circuits running in a blackout (not every setup does), whether the board has room, and what Energex's rules mean for your system. New or replacement systems of 10 kVA or more need a generation signalling device. Switchboard upgrades for solar and EV chargers covers the board side.
Questions to ask before a battery or shed job
- Will the battery give backup power, and to which circuits?
- Is my switchboard big enough, or does it need work first?
- What size cable will you run to the shed, and how deep?
- Will the shed have its own safety switch?
- What's your electrical contractor licence number?
What we'd do in Mudgeeraba
Plan the block as a whole. If a battery, a shed and an EV charger are all on the list for the next few years, we'd get one electrician to look at the supply and the board with all three in mind, then do the work in an order that avoids pulling things apart twice.
Want a specialist to sort it?
Tell us the job and your postcode. We match the licence-checked local electrician who does this kind of work, and they call you. No ring-around, and your number goes to them alone.
