Electricians in Upper CoomeraThe first round of upgrades, starting on the roof.

Upper Coomera's big estates filled through the 2000s, judging by its schools: Upper Coomera State College opened in 2003, Coomera Springs in 2008 and Highland Reserve in 2009. Homes that age are due for their first round of electrical changes, often starting with the solar. Tell us the job and we'll match it with one licence-checked local electrician who specialises in it.

Upper Coomera homes and power

A big, settled suburb

27,180 people lived here at the 2021 Census. 80.8% of homes were separate houses, 65.5% had four or more bedrooms, and 47.6% were owned with a mortgage.

Solar on most streets

Postcode 4209, which takes in Coomera and Pimpama too, had 14,780 small-scale solar systems installed by September 2026 and 1,642 home batteries added since July 2025.

River boundary

The Coomera River runs along the southern edge, between Upper Coomera and Oxenford.

Storms

Upper Coomera was activated for disaster assistance after the Christmas 2023 storms. Energex takes outage calls on 13 62 62.

Replacing or adding to older solar

If the inverter has died, or you want more panels or a battery, the new setup has to meet today's Energex rules rather than the ones in place when the original went up. Under Energex's basic connection offer, household inverters are capped at 10 kVA per phase and export at 5 kW per phase.

Queensland also requires a generation signalling device on any new or replacement solar and battery system of 10 kVA or more, so Energex can switch it off briefly in an energy emergency. Ask whether your board needs work to take the new gear. Switchboard upgrades for solar and EV chargers covers that side.

Other first-round upgrades

Lighting. Changing a globe isn't electrical work under Queensland law, but swapping halogen downlights for LED fittings is. Downlights covers what to ask.

More circuits. Second fridges, home offices and pool equipment all add load. If breakers trip when several things run together, get the circuits checked before adding more.

Yours to do, and the electrician's

You can

  • Change a light globe if you can reach it safely
  • Press the safety switch test button and reset it
  • Note the error code on the inverter's screen
  • Unplug appliances to find which one trips the power

Leave to a licensed electrician

  • Replacing a downlight fitting or its driver
  • Anything inside the inverter or at the solar isolators
  • Adding circuits or power points
  • Fitting a battery or a generation signalling device

If it were our place in Upper Coomera

If the solar is playing up, we'd get it diagnosed before deciding to replace it, and we'd ask any installer to quote the replacement to current Energex limits in writing. If a battery is on your list, size the inverter and board for it now so the job isn't done twice.

Questions

Straight answers.

My old solar inverter has stopped. Can I just swap in a bigger one?

Possibly, but it has to fit Energex's limits for your connection, and a system of 10 kVA or more needs a generation signalling device. A licensed installer should check the panels, the board and the network rules first.

Can I change my own downlights?

You can change the globe if it's safe to reach. Replacing the fitting, the driver or the wiring is licensed electrical work in Queensland.
