Cronulla in five lines
On Ausgrid
2230 is on the Ausgrid network. Its 24 hour fault line is 13 13 88.
Units first
Flats were 72.5% of homes in 2021, separate houses 20.5% and townhouses or semis 6.1%.
Owners and renters
41.1% of homes were rented and 33.4% owned outright.
Older blocks
Subdivided in 1895 and long popular with holiday-makers, Cronulla began replacing guest houses with high-rise flats from the 1950s.
Kurnell, 8 km away
The December 2015 tornado hit Kurnell with a 213 km/h gust, ran through Ausgrid's Kurnell South zone substation and cut power to 800 homes and businesses.
Living in an older Cronulla block
In most blocks the main switch, meters and supply cables are common property, so the strata manager arranges work on them. The board and wiring inside your unit are usually yours, but check the by-laws before you book.
Older buildings often have little spare capacity in the main supply. Before buying a car charger, have an electrician check what the building can take. A wall charger needs strata approval, and in October 2026 NSW Parliament passed a bill giving owners the right to install charging on their own lot without unreasonable objection.
What to ask a sparky about a unit job
- Is this work on my lot, or on common property?
- Does the building supply have room for a charger?
- Will the strata committee want a load check or drawings?
- Does the charger carry the Regulatory Compliance Mark?
- Will the CCEW be emailed to me once it is lodged?
What we'd do in Cronulla
Get the building answer before the unit answer. A load check on the main supply tells you whether chargers are possible across the whole block, and makes the strata vote much easier.
Want a specialist to sort it?
Tell us the job and your postcode. We match the licence-checked local electrician who does this kind of work, and they call you. No ring-around, and your number goes to them alone.
