Electricians in MintoThree eras of housing in one suburb.

Electricity reached Minto village only two years after piped water arrived in 1935, and most of the suburb came much later. By 1979 the Housing Commission had built over 1,000 homes here. Now the One Minto renewal is replacing some of them, so which era your house is from decides what the electrician looks at first.

Minto, then and now

Late to the grid

The Dictionary of Sydney says piped water came in 1935 and electricity two years later.

The 1970s boom

Sewerage, rail electrification and the freeway opened up the district from 1970, and the Housing Commission had built over 1,000 homes by 1979.

One Minto

The renewal redesigned the estate with new roads and open space. Around 850 of the new homes are privately owned and 360 are public housing.

Today

At the 2021 Census, 79.6% of homes were separate houses and 37.7% were rented.

Endeavour Energy

Campbelltown is in Endeavour's area (faults on 131 003), and 2566 is in stage 1 of its flexible exports rollout from 2 November 2026.

Renting in Minto

Any electrical fault in a NSW rental is an urgent repair, and that includes a faulty safety switch. Report it to the landlord or agent in writing and keep a copy.

Where we'd start

For an older Minto house you've just bought, book a switchboard and safety switch check before the furniture goes in. Empty rooms make it the easiest moment to fix things. We'll put you in touch with a licence-checked electrician near Minto who does that work, if we have one.
