Electricians in RiverstoneA country town that turned into a growth area.

Riverstone has two housing stories side by side: the old town around the station, and new streets on released farmland. Older homes usually need boards and safety switches brought up to date. New ones want chargers and solar set up properly.

Riverstone, electrically speaking

On Endeavour Energy's network

Blacktown is one of the councils Endeavour Energy lists in its franchise area. Street outages and fallen lines are Endeavour's job, on 131 003.

A long flood record

The record flood came in June 1867, there was a major one in November 1961, and in 2021 some homes along Marsden Road were completely submerged.

Country town to growth precinct

Riverstone stayed a small country town until the housing boom of the early 2000s. Riverstone, Riverstone East and Riverstone West are now rezoned in the North West Growth Area, and the town centre is still being planned.

Houses, and plenty rented

At the 2021 Census, 94.5% of homes were separate houses and 35.0% were rented. A large industrial area remains on the northern side.

Jobs that come up here

Older town homes: a board that still uses rewireable fuses, too few power points, and circuits with no safety switch. NSW Fair Trading recommends a safety switch on every circuit, fitted by a licensed electrician.

New estate homes: a wall charger, a battery, more outdoor power. Postcode 2765 is in stage 2 of Endeavour Energy's flexible exports rollout from 30 November, which changes the export rules for eligible new and upgraded solar.

Rentals: with more than a third of homes rented, smoke alarms and urgent repairs come up often. In a NSW rental, only a licensed electrician may repair or replace a hardwired smoke alarm.

If floodwater reached your power points or switchboard

Leave those circuits off. Call the SES on 132 500 for help, and have a licensed electrician test everything that got wet before it's used again.

Where we'd start

If you live in one of the older Riverstone streets and you're planning solar, a battery or a car charger, have the switchboard assessed first. Adding new load to an old board is where trouble starts, and the answer shapes the rest of the job. Send us the details; where there's a licence-checked local who does this, we'll put you in touch.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does the flexible exports change affect my existing Riverstone solar?

Endeavour says flexible exports become the default for eligible new and upgraded systems. If you're adding panels or a battery, ask your installer which export option you'll end up on.

Who fixes a power line that's down in my street?

Endeavour Energy, on 131 003. Keep at least eight metres away and keep others back. An electrician only comes in once the problem is on your side of the connection.
