What's local about it
The end of the tram line
Electric trams ran from Mount Gravatt along Logan Road into the city between 1953 and 1969, and part of the suburb was known as The Terminus. The library opened in 1967.
Smaller homes in the main suburb
In Mount Gravatt itself, the average home had 2.8 bedrooms in 2021, reflecting all those units.
Council and network
All three are in the City of Brisbane and on Energex's network. Outages go to 13 62 62 and fallen lines to 13 19 62.
Jobs in a suburb of units and rentals
Smoke alarms in units. Every Queensland home needs interconnected photoelectric alarms by 1 January 2027, and rentals have needed them at each new or renewed lease since 2022. In a unit block, check with the body corporate about anything in shared areas before you book.
Safety switches for landlords. A rental without an approved safety switch on the power points needs one within 90 days of the tenancy starting.
Older houses on the hill. Separate houses still make up most of Mount Gravatt East. If yours has an older board with fuses or few safety switches, have it checked before adding air conditioning or an induction cooktop.
Where we'd start in Mount Gravatt
If you own a unit you rent out, we'd get the smoke alarms done between tenants and ask the electrician to confirm there's a safety switch on the power points while they're there. If you live in an older house, start with a switchboard check. Either way, keep the certificate of testing and compliance.
