Electricians in CoomeraA young suburb where most homes are rented.

Coomera grew from 13,305 people in 2016 to 20,225 in 2021, and more than half its homes are rented. So much of the electrical work here is for investors, such as smoke alarms and safety switches between leases, plus storm repairs when hail comes through. Tell us what you need and we'll match it with one licence-checked local electrician who does that work.

Coomera in the numbers that matter

Mostly rented

53.7% of occupied homes were rented at the 2021 Census, well above the 33.1% across Queensland.

Big houses, young families

72.8% of homes were separate houses and 26.1% townhouses or semis, and 67.2% had four or more bedrooms. The median age was 29.

Still filling in

Coomera Rivers State School opened in 2011, Picnic Creek in 2018 and Foxwell State Secondary College in 2020, while Westfield Coomera opened in October 2018.

Hail and storms

Emergency alerts in the 31 October 2020 hailstorms covered Coomera, and the suburb was activated for disaster assistance after the Christmas 2023 storms.

On the river

The southern boundary follows the Coomera River. Energex runs the network, with outages on 13 62 62.

Between tenants, have an electrician check

  • An approved safety switch protects the power points. If there isn't one, the owner has 90 days from the start of a tenancy to fit one.
  • Smoke alarms are photoelectric, interconnected and under 10 years old, in every bedroom, connecting hallway and storey. These rules have applied at every new or renewed lease since 1 January 2022.
  • Hardwired alarms are replaced with hardwired ones, by an electrician.
  • Any power point, light or switch the last tenant reported as hot, buzzing or loose.
  • The certificate of testing and compliance for any work, filed with the property records.

Other jobs in Coomera's newer homes

Hail and surge damage. After a storm, outdoor lights, the air conditioner isolator and anything on the roof are the first places to look. Don't use anything that's sparking, buzzing or wet, and get an electrician to test it. Storm and flood damage covers the steps.

EV chargers and extra circuits. Big houses with two or three cars suit a home charger. EV charger installation on the Gold Coast covers the board and supply questions. In a townhouse complex, get body corporate approval first.

What we'd do with a Coomera investment property

We'd book one visit before each new lease that covers the safety switch, the smoke alarms and anything the last tenant flagged, and keep the certificate with the lease file. It's quicker than chasing three trades, and it's the record you'll want if something goes wrong later.

Questions

Straight answers.

Do Coomera owner-occupiers need new smoke alarms too?

Yes. By 1 January 2027, every Queensland home needs interconnected photoelectric alarms, including homes the owner lives in. Wireless alarms with a built-in 10-year battery can be fitted by the owner, but replacing hardwired alarms is an electrician's job.

Hail took out my outdoor lights. Electrician or insurer?

Usually both. Photograph the damage, keep the circuit off if it keeps tripping, and get a licensed electrician to test and repair it. Your insurer will tell you what it needs for a claim.
