Dianella's homes
Formed in 1958
Dianella brought together North Inglewood, East Yokine, Morley Park and Bedford Park in 1958. Houses went up from the 1960s, north from Walter Road and Grand Promenade first.
The last estates
St Andrews, Montclair Rise and Dress Circle were the last major areas developed, in the early 2000s. Housing ranges from modest post-war homes to large modern two-storey houses.
A big, settled suburb
There were 10,532 private dwellings at the 2021 Census. 71.5% of homes were separate houses and 24.4% townhouses or villas, 38.9% were owned outright, and the median age was 43.
Solar and batteries in 6059
The Clean Energy Regulator counts 4,677 small-scale solar systems in postcode 6059, plus 529 solar batteries recorded between July 2025 and September 2026.
What the age of the house usually means
| Older home (1960s and 1970s) | Estate home (2000s) | |
|---|---|---|
| Switchboard | May still have rewireable fuses, and the backing could contain asbestos | Circuit breakers, usually with safety switches |
| Safety switches | May have one or none; WA needs at least two before a sale | Check they cover every power and lighting circuit |
| Likely jobs | Board upgrade, more power points, rewiring parts of the house | Car charger, battery, outdoor power, lighting changes |
| First question to ask | Is the board safe to add anything to? | Is there room on the board and in the supply? |
Adding to either kind of house
Whatever the age, Western Power requires a circuit breaker main switch when circuit capacity is added, and the standard supply is 63 amps on single phase. On an old board, that can turn a small addition into an upgrade. On a newer one, it's usually a check rather than a change.
Black or dark brown backing boards made before 1987 can contain asbestos. If yours looks like that, don't disturb it, and mention it when you book.
Where we'd start in Dianella
We'd describe the switchboard when booking: fuses or switches, how many test buttons, and roughly when the house was built. That tells an electrician most of what they need before they arrive, and it makes the first quote far more accurate.
