A leaning, cracked or scorched pole
Keep people and animals clear. If a line is down or sparking, stay at least 8 metres back, call 000 if there's fire, then Western Power on 13 13 51. Don't try to prop the pole up or pull branches off a line.
Mundaring's setting
Hills and forest
Mundaring is 34 km east of Perth on the Great Eastern Highway. The Shire covers 645 square kilometres, and 238.30 of those are forests and national parks.
Two recent fires
Besides Parkerville in 2014, the Wooroloo fire of 1 February 2021 burnt more than 10,500 hectares and destroyed 86 homes, with warnings across the Shire of Mundaring and the City of Swan.
Long-term owners
45.8% of Mundaring homes were owned outright at the 2021 Census and the median age was 50. 92.2% were separate houses.
Shire growth in the 1970s
The Shire grew from 8,925 people in 1966 to 20,786 in 1981, so plenty of homes date from that stretch.
Solar count
Postcode 6073 had 852 small-scale solar systems on the Clean Energy Regulator's count to 30 September 2026.
Looking after a private pole
Find out what's yours
Western Power inspects the first private pole carrying its supply cables. Poles and overhead lines beyond that, out to the house or sheds, are the owner's.
Look from the ground
Check for lean, cracks, rot at the base, termite damage and branches near the line. Don't climb it.
Get a licensed professional
Inspection, maintenance and replacement have to be done by a qualified, licensed professional. An electrician who does private overhead work can assess it.
Ask about going underground
Replacing a tired private overhead line with an underground cable takes the pole out of the picture. Whether it suits your block depends on distance, ground and access.
Before this fire season
We'd walk the line from the first private pole to the house and outbuildings, photograph anything doubtful, and get an electrician who does private overhead work out before summer. It's the one electrical job on a hills block that can affect your neighbours as much as you.
Want a specialist to sort it?
Tell us the job and your postcode. We match the licence-checked local electrician who does this kind of work, and they call you. No ring-around, and your number goes to them alone.
