Albion Park in five facts
From cattle estate to town
The area was part of Samuel Terry's 1821 land grant. The railway in 1887 and the road through Macquarie Pass sped up growth, and Albion Park Rail grew beside the station two kilometres east.
Calderwood
In 2010 the NSW Government approved a concept plan for about 4,800 homes on roughly 700 hectares north-west of Albion Park. Stage 1 consent followed in 2013.
Young families
At the 2021 Census, 49.1% of homes were mortgaged, 17.5% were rented and 85.1% were separate houses.
Rivers and lake
The City of Shellharbour's northern boundary follows the Lake Illawarra entrance and Macquarie Rivulet.
Endeavour
Postcode 2527 is in stage two of Endeavour Energy's solar backstop rollout, from 30 November 2026. Report faults on 131 003.
Before the electrician starts on a new build
- Spare space on the switchboard for a future battery and EV charger.
- Safety switch protection across all circuits, not just power and lights.
- Conduit or a cable run to where a charger would go.
- Hardwired smoke alarms wherever the plans and the rules require them.
- Outdoor power points kept away from where water pools.
Living in an established Albion Park home
Older parts of town have houses from several decades, and some boards still use fuses. If yours does, or there's a dark backing board behind it made before 1987, get it assessed before adding a big load: NSW says those boards may contain asbestos.
Owners who qualify, including landlords, can use a NSW Home Energy Saver loan for a switchboard upgrade or a Level 2 EV charger. The program requires the work to be done by an electrician with a current NSW licence, to AS/NZS 3000.
