What shapes electrical work in Shellharbour

On Endeavour's network

Endeavour Energy lists postcode 2529 in stage two of its rooftop solar backstop rollout, from 30 November 2026. Faults and fallen lines go to Endeavour on 131 003.

An old village

Shellharbour township was founded in 1851 and became a municipality on 4 June 1859. The city was proclaimed on 1 January 1996.

New apartments by the marina

At The Waterfront, Shell Cove, the Ancora and Nautilus buildings took their first residents in 2024: 180 apartments beside the new marina.

The suburb's homes

At the 2021 Census, 68.4% of homes in the suburb were separate houses, 14.8% townhouses or semis and 15.8% units. 32.7% were rented and the median age was 46.

Fire history

Emergency declarations in the Black Christmas fires of December 2001 covered Shellharbour, Wollongong and Kiama.

Old and new need different things

In the older streets, it's switchboards and rewiring: fuse boards without safety switches, too few power points and tired cable. A house with decades of small additions is worth a full test before anything new goes in.

In new apartment buildings, the electrics are modern but shared. Changes like an EV charger go through the owners corporation, and Endeavour Energy says a Level 2 wall box charger must be installed by a licensed electrician, who tells Endeavour if the switchboard or meter box needs upgrading.

Solar from 30 November. For new and upgraded systems in 2529, Endeavour's export plans need a CSIP-AUS inverter listed by the Clean Energy Council and an active internet connection.

Where we would start in Shellharbour

In an older house, a full safety check first, then the board. In a new apartment, ask the strata manager about the building's charging plan before you buy a charger: joining an existing plan is far easier than starting one on your own.

Questions

Straight answers.

Who do I call about a power outage in Shellharbour?

Endeavour Energy, on 131 003. It also posts real-time status on its outage map. Stay at least eight metres from any fallen line and call 000 if someone's life is at risk.

I've just bought an apartment at Shell Cove. Can I add an EV charger?

Probably, but not without the owners corporation: Energy NSW's guidance is that a Level 2 wallbox in an apartment needs the strata's approval first. A new law giving owners the right to install charging on their own lot passed Parliament in October 2026, with no start date announced yet.
