Storm-damaged house? Think asbestos and live wires
Stay away from fallen lines and report them to Endeavour Energy on 131 003. Don't pull at damaged walls, eaves or the meter board of an older house: Kiama's 2013 recovery stalled because so many damaged homes contained asbestos. A licensed electrician makes the electrics safe, and a licensed asbestos removalist deals with anything that has to come out.

The jobs that come up in Kiama
Storm repairs. After wind damage, an electrician tests what got wet or hit, makes damaged circuits safe and replaces what can't be saved. A careful one treats an old meter board as possible asbestos until it's confirmed otherwise: NSW says dark bituminous boards made before 1987 can contain it.
Heritage and older houses. Timber cottages and terraces need wiring work that doesn't damage what's worth keeping. Ask how new cable will be run before work starts.
Holiday lets and units. Smoke alarms, safety switches and outdoor lighting before the summer rush, and strata approval for bigger changes in units.
If it were our Kiama place
We'd get the switchboard's backing checked for asbestos before a storm makes it urgent. Knowing in advance lets the electrician plan the job properly, instead of stopping halfway the way the 2013 clean-up did.
