What shapes electrical work in Dapto
A growth front
Stages 1 and 2 of the West Dapto Urban Release Area were rezoned for homes in 2010 and are under development. Much of stage 3 was rezoned in March 2024 for up to 2,275 more.
The old town
Dapto was officially founded in 1834. The railway and a butter factory came in 1887, and the town centre moved south to the station.
Family homes
At the 2021 Census, 84.7% of Dapto's homes were separate houses, 37.9% were mortgaged and 24.7% rented.
Endeavour's network
Postcode 2530 is in stage two of Endeavour Energy's solar backstop rollout, starting 30 November 2026. Faults: 131 003.
Heavy rain
On 18 August 1998 Wollongong recorded 316 mm of rain, mostly in about three hours, causing a major flood.
Building new in West Dapto
Plan the switchboard for what's coming. A new home's board is modern, but it may not have spare room for a battery, an EV charger and a bigger air conditioner later. Leaving space now is simpler than adding a second board.
Solar on the Endeavour network. Flexible exports let eligible homes export 10 kW per phase most of the time, and from November 2026 they become the default for eligible new and upgraded systems. You need a CSIP-AUS inverter listed by the Clean Energy Council and an active internet connection; the fixed plan allows 1.5 kW.
EV chargers. Endeavour says a Level 2 wall box charger must be installed by a licensed electrician, who should tell Endeavour if the switchboard or meter box needs upgrading. A bi-directional charger has to be approved through its Connections Portal.
And in older Dapto
Houses from the decades before the estates may still have fuses, few power points and no safety switches on some circuits. A switchboard upgrade with modern protection is usually the first job, and the one that makes everything after it straightforward.
Our take for Dapto
If you're building, ask your electrician for a board with spare space and a conduit to the garage for a future charger, even if an EV is years away. In an older house, get the board done before you add solar or a charger.
