Wollongong, New South Wales

Level 2 electricians in WollongongEndeavour Energy's network, Endeavour's process.

Wollongong is on Endeavour Energy's network, so connection work here runs through Endeavour, not Ausgrid. A Level 2 Accredited Service Provider usually does the service work on a basic connection job, and your retailer sets up the meter. Tell us what's changing at the property, and we'll pass it to one licence-checked Illawarra electrician who handles supply and mains jobs, where we have one.

Line to the house down or arcing?

Call Endeavour Energy on 131 003 and stay at least eight metres away. If anyone's hurt or in danger, call 000 first. Don't book a Level 2 until Endeavour has made it safe and you know which side of the connection point the damage is on.

How it works on Endeavour's network

The Connections Portal

Most connection and upgrade applications, including going from single phase to three phase, are lodged online through Endeavour's Connections Portal, and many basic jobs can get instant permission to connect.

What a basic connection covers

Endeavour's basic connection offers go up to a maximum demand of 100 amps single phase or 63 amps three phase. If your plans need more than that, talk to Endeavour before you collect quotes.

Meters are the retailer's

Retailers install, read and maintain smart meters on Endeavour's network and replace faulty older ones. NSW homes are set to move to smart meters by 2030.

Solar rules by postcode

Postcodes 2500 and 2502 are in stage two of Endeavour's rollout of the NSW solar backstop requirements, from 30 November 2026. From November 2026, flexible exports of 10 kW per phase most of the time become the default for eligible new and upgraded systems.

Older suburbs, older meter boards

Suburbs like Cringila, Warrawong and Coniston grew around the Port Kembla steelworks. Essential Energy notes homes built before 1988 may have a meter board containing bonded asbestos, so mention the board's age early.

Jobs in Wollongong that usually need a Level 2

A new home or a knockdown rebuild, three-phase for a bigger solar system or a heavy load, moving an overhead line underground, relocating a meter box, and reconnecting a property that's been disconnected. Each of those touches the service line or the connection, which is contestable work for an Accredited Service Provider.

Bi-directional EV chargers, the kind that can send power back to the house or the grid, have an extra step: Endeavour requires them to be approved and registered through its Connections Portal. A standard wall charger is a licensed electrician's job, and they should tell Endeavour if the switchboard or meter box needs upgrading.

Checking the provider

Look them up on the NSW ASP Scheme portal at aspscheme.energy.nsw.gov.au and check their level and class suit the job. Individual ASP workers also need authorisation from the local distributor, which in Wollongong means Endeavour Energy.

The electrician doing the work inside the property should hold a NSW licence you can confirm on Service NSW's licence check. They lodge a CCEW for their part within 7 days of finishing.

Your part, and the accredited part

You can

  • Find out from your retailer what meter you have now.
  • Photograph the meter board and where the line meets the house, from the ground.
  • Tell everyone involved if the board might be pre-1988.

Leave to a licensed electrician

  • Level 2: the service line, the connection and energising the supply.
  • Level 2: changing a single phase supply to three phase.
  • Licensed electrician: the switchboard and wiring on your side.

Our approach in Wollongong

We'd get the connection question answered first, since a basic job can move quickly on Endeavour's portal and a bigger one won't. We'd confirm the Level 2 is authorised for Endeavour's network specifically. And if solar is part of the plan in 2500 or 2502, we'd make the three-phase decision and the inverter choice together.

Questions

Straight answers.

Can a Level 2 who does Ausgrid jobs in Sydney do my Wollongong connection?

Only if they also hold Endeavour Energy authorisation. Accreditation comes from the NSW Government, but each ASP worker needs authorisation from the local distributor, and Wollongong's is Endeavour.

Do I need a Level 2 for a smart meter in Wollongong?

No. Your retailer handles meters on Endeavour's network. A Level 2 is only involved if the service line or the connection itself changes.

Does going three-phase change my solar export?

It can. Endeavour's flexible exports work per phase, at 10 kW per phase most of the time, so a three phase home has more room. Plan it with your solar installer and the Level 2 together.
