Jimboomba's homes and hazards
Logan since 2008
Jimboomba moved from the Shire of Beaudesert to Logan City in March 2008, and its eastern parts became Glenlogan and Riverbend in 2017.
Family houses
96.7% of homes were separate houses at the 2021 Census, and 61.7% were owned with a mortgage.
Bushfire risk
In 2014 the RFS wrote to 2028 homes across Jimboomba, Greenbank and Cedar Vale about high or very high bushfire risk.
Storm alerts
During the 31 October 2020 storms, an emergency alert went out to Jimboomba residents.
Energex's network
Logan, including Jimboomba, sits inside the South East Queensland network Energex runs, 48.7 km by road south of the Brisbane CBD.
What newer Jimboomba homes usually need
Solar and a battery. Energex's basic offer allows up to 10 kVA of inverter capacity and 5 kW of export per phase, and systems of 10 kVA or more need a generation signalling device. A sparky who does solar connections works within those limits.
An EV charger. With a long drive into Brisbane, home charging is the practical way to run an EV. Ask the electrician to check the board's spare capacity before you choose a charger.
More phases for more load. If you're adding a lot, the electrician may suggest another phase. Energex handles that through an Electrical Work Request your electrician lodges, which also tells your retailer.
Fire and storm readiness
Bushfires and storms can both bring lines down. Treat any fallen line as live, keep well away and call Energex on 13 19 62. Power and lighting out to sheds and yards is licensed work, and it should sit behind a safety switch.
Where we'd start in Jimboomba
Decide on solar, battery and charger together before booking anything. One electrician can plan the board for all three, instead of coming back to it three times.
