Logan at a glance
A big, mixed council area
Logan City Council covers Beenleigh, Rochedale South, Meadowbrook, Springwood, Woodridge and Eagleby, plus the rural towns of Jimboomba and Logan Village. The city more than tripled in area in 2008.
Rivers and creeks that flood
The Bureau of Meteorology rates the Logan and Albert Rivers a very high flood risk to urban areas, and Scrubby and Slacks Creeks can flash flood. The 2022 floods damaged 197 properties in the council area, and Alfred brought major flooding again in March 2025.
The 2020 hail
On 31 October 2020, giant hail tracked from Amberley to Logan's northern suburbs, and personal hardship assistance was switched on for suburbs across the city.
Mostly houses, a third rented
At the 2021 Census, 85.0% of Logan's homes were separate houses and 34.6% were rented. The average home had 3.5 bedrooms.
What to check, by type of street
| Established suburbs | New estates | |
|---|---|---|
| Switchboard | May still have fuses or only one safety switch | Modern, but check there's spare room |
| Smoke alarms | Often standalone, and due for interconnected photoelectric ones by 1 January 2027 | Check they're interconnected and under 10 years old |
| Typical add-ons | Extra circuits, ceiling fans, outdoor power | Solar, a battery, an EV charger |
Floods, hail and your power
Anything that's sat in floodwater, from a power point to the switchboard, stays off until an electrician has tested it. Hail is a different problem: cracked solar panels or a damaged outdoor unit can leave live parts exposed, so keep clear and book a check.
Fallen lines and street-wide outages belong to Energex. Call 13 19 62 for a line down and 13 62 62 for an outage. Energex's online Outage Finder shows planned work too, and it gives at least four business days' notice before a planned outage.
Where we'd start in Logan
In an established street, start with the switchboard: it decides whether a new air conditioner, charger or pool pump can go in safely. In a new estate, start with what you'll add over the next few years, and size the job once. Either way, ask for the certificate of testing and compliance when the work's finished.
