High Wycombe at a glance
At the foot of the scarp
The suburb lies at the base of the Darling Scarp, directly east of Perth Airport, between Forrestfield and Hazelmere, about 18 km from Perth.
Named in 1978
Formerly part of Maida Vale, High Wycombe was officially declared on 2 June 1978. The name was first used in 1958 by the subdivider.
Houses, almost entirely
At the 2021 Census, 96.2% of homes were separate houses and 50.9% had four or more bedrooms. 45.7% were mortgaged and 21.9% rented.
Solar and batteries in 6057
The Clean Energy Regulator counts 4,305 small-scale solar systems in postcode 6057, plus 362 solar batteries recorded from July 2025 to September 2026.
Rail since 2022
High Wycombe station on the Airport line opened on 9 October 2022, after delays caused partly by flooding and a sinkhole.
Cooling a house on a 40-degree day
Perth averages 5 days a year above 40 °C, and summer 2021 to 22 had 11. Those are the days a split system on a shared circuit trips, or an older board runs warm. A dedicated circuit for each big unit is the usual fix, and that's licensed work.
Adding circuits has knock-on rules on Western Power's network. The main switch must be a circuit breaker, and if the new load would push the house past the 63 amp single phase supply, the contractor has to apply for more.
Fire danger days
The City of Kalamunda's fire hazard notice applies across the City, with works due by 1 November 2026. On Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger days, Western Power won't switch power back on after an unplanned outage, so an outage on a hot day can stretch into the evening.
A battery may help with that, but only if it's set up to. Ask the installer, in writing, exactly what it will run when the grid is down, before you buy.
What we'd do in High Wycombe
Before summer, we'd make sure each big air con unit has its own circuit and the board isn't running hot. If a battery is on your list, we'd choose it for what it does in an outage as much as for what it saves, because that's the day you'll notice the difference.
