What shapes electrical work in Caringbah
Orchards until after the war
Caringbah was still orchards and farms until after World War II, and the Cronulla railway arrived in 1939. Its older houses are post-war, and many sites have since been redeveloped into villas and units.
One postcode, many suburbs
Taren Point, Port Hacking, Lilli Pilli, Dolans Bay and Caringbah South all share the 2229 postcode. Use your actual suburb when you ask for help, so the match is local.
A big rental share
38.2% of Caringbah's 5,257 occupied homes were rented in 2021, and 26.2% were owned outright.
Ausgrid supplies it
Caringbah is inside Ausgrid's network area. Outages and wires down go to Ausgrid on 13 13 88.

Post-war houses that haven't been knocked down
Sutherland Shire only became suburban Sydney in the early 1950s, after the Housing Commission started buying land here for returned servicemen. Original homes from that time may still have old wiring, a meter board from before 1987 and few safety switches. NSW Fair Trading strongly recommends homes built before 2000 have a licensed electrician check that safety switches are fitted.
If you're renovating one, ask whether the wiring in the walls you're not touching is worth replacing while the house is open. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's fine.
Shops and workshops on Taren Point Road
Caringbah has a large commercial and industrial strip around Taren Point Road. If the job is for a business there rather than a home, it's a different kind of electrician: see commercial electricians in Sydney.
The first call we'd make
In a villa or unit, we'd call the strata manager before anyone else if the fault is outside our own walls. If it's inside, we'd book one electrician who works in strata complexes, because they'll know where the shared wiring starts. Tell us the suburb and the job and we'll match one licence-checked local sparky to it.
Want a specialist to sort it?
Tell us the job and your postcode. We match the licence-checked local electrician who does this kind of work, and they call you. No ring-around, and your number goes to them alone.
