Samford, in brief
Two localities, one town
Samford is made up of Samford Village and Samford Valley, about 21 km north-west of Brisbane, beside the Samford State Forest.
Acreage since the 1960s
Farms started being subdivided into acreage homesites in the 1960s, and many residents now commute to Brisbane.
Almost all houses
98.7% of Samford Valley's homes were separate houses at the 2021 Census, and only 4.4% were rented.
The village
Samford Village had 819 people in 2021, and 12.9% of its homes were semi-detached or townhouses.
Moreton Bay and Energex
Samford moved from the Shire of Pine Rivers to the new Moreton Bay council in 2008 and sits inside the network Energex runs. In the November 2025 storms, Moreton Bay had the worst outages, about 51,000 customers.
Electrical work on an acreage block
Power to outbuildings. Sheds, workshops, pumps and gates need cable run or buried to the right standard, with a safety switch protecting each circuit. It's licensed work from the board to the last outlet.
Long runs. Over a long distance, cable size matters, or tools at the far end won't get the voltage they need. An electrician who does rural work sizes it for the distance.
Older boards in the first acreage houses. Queensland's asbestos guidance says homes built before the mid-1980s are highly likely to contain asbestos materials. If yours is one of the early ones, mention the board's age when you book.
Outages. Storms can bring branches down on lines. Treat any fallen line as live and report it to Energex on 13 19 62.
Questions for an acreage electrician
- Have you run power to sheds or pumps over this kind of distance before?
- How will the cable be protected where it crosses the driveway or paddock?
- Will each outbuilding circuit have its own safety switch?
- Can I see your electrical contractor licence number, and will the certificate of testing and compliance come with the invoice?
Our take in Samford
Plan every outbuilding you might power in the next few years in one go. Trenching once, with cable sized for the furthest shed, beats digging up the paddock twice.
